My Podcast Picks

My Podcast Picks

Podcasts are dope. I started mine a few months ago and truly feel honored to now be part of this impactful community. My podcast journey started 2 years ago and I’ve been hooked ever since.

It’s interesting though - while I find new ones every week, my core group of faves has literally stayed the same over my time listening. Here are my tried and true podcast picks.

  • Side Hustle Pro: For black women who want to learn how to start and scale their side hustle, this podcast changed the game! Nicaila is so genuine in her quest to help her peers act on their dreams, one step at a time, and releases impactful podcast content by way of her interviews weekly.  I don’t miss an episode and definitely listen for inspiration. I also enrolled in her Podcast Moguls class, which helped me figure out how to start my own show.

  • How I Built This: Clearly, business and entrepreneurship is my jam. Guy Raz interviews the founders of some of the world’s most iconic brands, giving insight on exactly, you guessed it, how they built what they built.  There’s something really special about hearing the intricate back stories of how something I use daily (like my Warby Parker eyeglasses) was created. I think I listen to this podcast more for research vs. inspiration. Fun fact - my friend and grad school classmate, Juana, created the show logo (along with a bunch of NPR’s other amazing visuals).

  • Angela Yee’s Lip Service: I LOVE an Angela Yee and I REALLY love her raunchy side. I laugh so much when I’m tuned in to this show, and I really respect how she and her co-hosts can get their guests to talk about some of the most personal things. There is a comfort level that only she provides, which I also think she brings to The Breakfast Club situation… very gentle and unassuming, yet laser sharp and slick. This one is in rotation for laughs and some personal inspiration ;)

  • 30 Something, Black and Gay: The show title is pretty self explanatory, but I think there’s a lot more to this show. Even though they’re no longer recording new episodes, it’s still worth checking out… the hosts analyze hot topics in pop culture, adding in their opinions, insight and lots of jokes. I laugh a lot when listening to this show and listen because I know they’ll hit on at least one thing that had #blacktwitter on lit the week before. Lol. Disclaimer: my best friend is the show’s creator and co-host, but I’d totally listen even if he wasn’t. It’s GOOD!

  • Content Marketing Quickie: During my time transitioning my event/cowork space to a content creator studio, I committed to learning as much as I could about content creation. Thus, I get some of my industry news from this show by way of quick updates on anything that’s happened in the content marketing world over the last week. Super helpful when thinking through long term plans, as the host summarizes news reports, key findings from surveys and data collection.  I’m listening every week, like clockwork, so that my businesses grow smart.

Not sure if these podcasts are what you’re into, but check them out if they seem interesting. And, of course, let me know what’s in your top 5 podcast pick in the comments. Love ya!
